Regency Personalities Series
In my attempts to provide us with the details of the Regency, today I continue with one of the many period notables.
Lady Anne (Wesley) Fitzroy
1775 – December 16 1844
Anne was the sister of Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington.
At birth she was Lady Anne Wesley, the daughter of Garret Wesley, 1st Earl of Mornington and his wife Anne Hill, daughter of Arthur Hill-Trevor, 1st Viscount Dungannon.
In 1790 she married Henry Fitzroy, son of Charles Fitzroy, 1st Baron Southampton. They had a daughter Georgiana Frederica Fitzroy in 1792. Henry died in 1794. Anne remarried in 1799 to Charles Culling Smith. They had a daughter Emily Frances Smith in 1800.
In 1814 Lady Anne’s daughter Georgiana Frederica was married to Lord Worcester Henry Somerset, who would be the Duke of Beaufort. Worcester had served as an aide-de-camp to the Duke of Wellington during the Peninsular War. Georgiana died in 1821, and in 1822 Lord Worcester married Lady Anne’s other daughter Emily Frances. Lady Anne Smith died in 1844.
